Effekt no.3 - will take you on a spin around the world with two of Lisbon’s leading names on the electronic music scene: Branko, known as the creative leader behind former music collective ‘Buraka Som Sistema’ who had several global hits with artists such as M.I.A. - and Pedro (a.k.a. KKing Kong) who is taking charge of the next generation of the Lisbon sound. As Lisbon is establishing itself as the new creative capital of Europe, its particular and diverse music scene is gaining international attention, heavily influenced by the music of the portuguese speaking world of Brazil, Angola and Mozambique mixed with the straight forward electronic music of Europe.
This night we bring the best of Lisbon to Lund for a moment of heavy hitting beats with support from one of the best party crews in our region - So&Such. Expect rhythms from all over the world mixed with everything between trap, afro-beat, baile funk, Kuduro, and techno.. and a lot of bass.
Growing up in the outskirts of Lisbon, in the area of Amadora, João Barbosa (aka Branko) was exposed to the rich cultural expressions from the groups of people living there, coming from the former Portuguese colonies. As these expressions melted together, new styles of music and art came into being, where Branko was instrumental in building the foundation for this new scene. João describes this life-affirming process with “That’s how we all started to make sense out of everything around us.”
Branko is known as a pioneer within “world-bass” music, blazing the trail for many dance music producers such as Major Lazer and Diplo. Many will know him from his work with music collective ‘Buraka Som Sistema’ introducing the sounds of Angolan Kuduro and Brazilian Funk to a western audience. Some will know him from collaborations with M.I.A. for whom he put together her live-shows. His debut album ‘Atlas’ was produced during travels to all corners of the planet, collaborating with artists like Princess Nokia, Nonku Phiri and Mr Carmack. Now he’s coming to visit us in Lund as part of the world-tour of his brand new album ‘Nossa’ (meaning ‘Ours’). The album is released on the label ‘Enchufada’ which is run by Branko himself.
PEDRO is the DJ and producer formerly known as KKing Kong. Raised in the Lisbon suburb of Damaia, PEDRO’s youth was soundtracked by Tarraxo, kizomba and kuduro, styles which have contributed to the unique and unmistakable output that now places him at the forefront of Lisbon’s electronic revolution. His releases for Enchufada are responsible for regularly igniting Lisbon dance floors, such as Branko’s celebrated Hard Ass Sessions parties or his own De Surra club night, but also on an international stage via artists such as Diplo, Sango, Baauer or DJ Snake, who regularly feature PEDRO’s productions on their DJ sets.
The night will be held together with help from the hottest music collective of Malmö - So&Such - which is bounce guaranteed! Upfront music at the edge of today, that more than happily visits all the corners of the world - particularly intrigued by brazilian rhythms like the rest of the line up. Like as if this night needed more juice..
